What The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films Is About
Hilla Medalia's documentary tells the rise and fall of Cannon Films, founded by the cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, in their own words. Through the 1980s Cannon made films at an astonishing rate: cheap action, ninja pictures, martial arts, and the occasional attempt at prestige. The method was simple, selling films that did not exist yet on the strength of a poster and using the money to make them. For a while the cycle held, and then it did not. What the documentary is worth comes from putting the two men at the same table and letting them contradict each other, so both the partnership and the resentment show. Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michael Dudikoff and Jon Voight speak as well.
