Dancing in Jaffa

Pierre Dulaine is an internationally known ballroom dancer, and he was born in Jaffa. Taking his own programme to the city where he was born had long been his dream. The documentary follows that dream being carried out. Dulaine teaches ten year old Israeli Palestinian and Israeli Jewish children to dance together. The film’s case is that the distance between the children can close and that this can change what is around them; that hopefulness is the account’s own choice. Families, teachers and children do not all meet the idea the same way, and the film records that resistance too. Dance here is not a solution but a ground on which people meet. Hilla Medalia’s hundred minute documentary, a joint Israeli and American production, was completed in 2013.
