What The Good Postman Is About
The documentary is set in a small Bulgarian village. The village is called Golyam Dervent. It sits right beside the Turkish border. The place has emptied out over the years. Its population has fallen very low. In those years the flow of refugees towards Europe is under way. Ivan, the village postman, takes up an idea. He stands for mayor. His programme is simple. He wants to settle refugees in the village. That way, he thinks, the place will come back to life. But the villagers do not all agree with him. The campaign runs among a handful of people. The documentary follows the election from beginning to end. The eighty two minute work is a Bulgarian and Finnish coproduction. Tonislav Hristov’s documentary was finished in 2016.
