What The Great O'Malley Is About

James O’Malley is a patrolman. He goes by the letter of the rule. He gives way on nothing. One day he stops John Phillips. The reason is a noisy muffler. Phillips was starting a new job that morning. Writing out the ticket takes a long time. Phillips arrives late and is dismissed. At home there is his wife and his daughter Barbara, who cannot walk. Looking for money, he tries to pawn his war medals. A quarrel with the pawnbroker turns into a fight, and he knocks the man out and takes the money. Around the same time Barbara is badly hurt in traffic, and when O’Malley puts it together he sees his own part in it. Pat O’Brien and Humphrey Bogart appear in the seventy one minute film, an American production William Dieterle finished in 1937.
