What The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood, Jr. Is About
The documentary looks at the career of Ed Wood, often called the worst director in the history of cinema. That label was fastened on him afterwards, and the film opens the picture by giving the floor to people who loved him and to people who did not. It tells how a man working at the edge of the Hollywood of the fifties got films made with the means he had. Bela Lugosi’s son speaks about his father’s work in those productions, and a preacher recalls how he was tricked into paying for one of them. The account neither makes Wood an object of mockery nor declares him a genius. Brett Thompson’s hundred and twelve minute American documentary was completed in 1996.
