The Horse Boy

Rowan was diagnosed with autism at two. His father Rupert Isaacson is a writer. He had worked as a horse trainer before that. His mother Kristin Neff works in psychology. The family lives in Texas. Rowan has a marked attachment to horses. On that basis the family sets out on a journey. Where they go is Mongolia. They fly in, then drive for hours, and out on the steppe they continue on horseback. The boy rides in his parents’ saddles. Along the way they meet shamans. The film follows that journey. It also carries conversations about autism, with Simon Baron-Cohen and Temple Grandin among the people who speak. Rupert Isaacson and Kristin Neff appear in the ninety three minute film, an American production Michel O. Scott finished in 2009.
