What The Hunchback of Paris Is About
When the Duke of Nevers is ambushed and killed, the swordsman at his side, Lagardere, has to run and save the duke's baby daughter. He raises her in Spain while returning to France to find the killers one by one. To reach the man behind it all he takes another route: he disguises himself as a hunchback and installs himself at his enemy's side. That is the hunchback of the title, the trick most summaries leave out. From Paul Feval's 1857 novel, with Jean Marais on the sword and Bourvil on the comedy. A 1997 version with Daniel Auteuil also exists.
