Fantomas vs. Scotland Yard

The third film in a French adventure comedy series. Fantômas sets up a new business: he imposes a tax on the richest people in the world. Those who do not pay will be killed. To deliver the demand he goes to a castle in Scotland. It belongs to a lord and there are a number of guests inside. The journalist Fandor and his fiancée Hélène arrive too. Then Commissioner Juve comes with his men; catching Fantômas has been a personal matter for him for years. There is a hunting party at the castle, servants, secret passages and a ghost story. Juve walks the corridors all night and catches the wrong person every time. The humour is built on Juve's impatience and rage; his men work with devices of their own invention and none of them works. Fantômas wears a mask and can take on the appearance of anyone he chooses, so the narrative keeps turning into a game of who is who. Jean Marais plays both Fantômas and Fandor. Louis de Funès plays Juve and Mylène Demongeot plays Hélène. André Hunebelle directed. An entertaining choice for anyone who likes French comedy of the 1960s and light adventure. For a viewer who does not know the series, the film refers back to the two before it.
