The Invisible Witness

A wealthy businessman is found in a locked hotel room with his lover's body, and he is the only suspect. Before the hearing a celebrated lawyer arrives, and the two of them have a few hours to construct a defensible account. Almost all of it takes place in that room, in conversation, with the past reshot at every new version, so the audience keeps learning that the scene it just watched was a lie. Stefano Mordini's film is a remake of the Spanish Contratiempo and keeps the structure largely intact. Riccardo Scamarcio takes the lead. The shape is familiar, but the Italian version builds its own atmosphere out of location and performance. Who it is for: viewers who like single-room thrillers and layered deception. Who it is not for: anyone who has seen the original, since the reversals are identical.
