Thailand, 1996. A volleyball team is put together, but because most of the players chosen are gay or transgender the old squad walks out. Those who remain call in friends they knew from university. The team is formed and enters the national championship. What they face is not only their opponents but the attitude of the stands and of the federation. Yongyoot Thongkongtoon's Thai film recounts a real team: the squad that won the national championship in 1996. The film did big business in Thailand and was shown abroad as well. The telling draws its comedy not from the players but from the bewilderment of the people watching them. Discrimination stands throughout the film as an obstacle, not as material for jokes.
