The Jester's Supper

In the Florence of Lorenzo the Magnificent, the aristocratic Chiaramantesi brothers rule the streets with an iron fist. Ruthless and violent, the two of them have chosen the harmless Giannetto as their particular victim, and for a long time he is determined not to respond. But once Ginevra, who works in the Chiaramantesi household, is drawn into the game, Giannetto can no longer stay silent. The trap he sets to defend his honour and protect the woman is a scheme that overturns everyone’s calculations, and it ends in blood and madness. In Alessandro Blasetti’s eighty seven minute Italian film, Amedeo Nazzari, Osvaldo Valenti and Clara Calamai appear, with a young Valentina Cortese in the cast. It was completed in 1942 and builds revenge as the continuation of a chain of pranks.
