The King and I

This is a stage production filmed for the screen. The account is set in Siam. Anna Leonowens is a Welsh widow. She is taken on at the palace as a governess. Her task is to teach the wives and children of King Mongkut. What she teaches is English and Western manners. The children are very many. The king is stubborn and does not give ground. Anna does not give ground either. The two of them come up against each other often. European diplomats are due at the palace. A reception is being prepared for them, to change what they think of the king, and there is very little time. Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe lead the hundred and fifty nine minute performance, an American production Gary Halvorson finished in 2018.
