The Knife

There is a boy. His mother is starting a new relationship. The man was his father’s closest friend; the father is dead. The boy resents this. At the same time he is drawn to Toni, a girl in the neighbourhood. That feeling confuses him and presses on him. He becomes fascinated by an antique Oriental knife. In the end he steals it. He uses it both to impress Toni and to try to break up his mother’s relationship. The account is set inside the passage into adolescence. Reitze van der Linden and Louise Videc take the leads, with Ellen Vogel also in the cast, in Fons Rademakers’s Dutch film of 1961.
