The Last Lieutenant

An old sea captain goes into retirement. The next day Germany occupies Norway. The man says goodbye to his wife and goes to the army. What he sees at headquarters takes him aback. Nobody knows what to do. Morale is low and there is no order. They laugh at his uniform and at his rank. To them it is a rank of the old style. Even so the captain does not step back. He gathers a troop of volunteers on his own. With them he goes over to the defence. While everyone else pulls out he chooses to stay. Espen Skjonberg and Lars Andreas Larssen take the leads, with Bjorn Sundquist also in the cast, in Hans Petter Moland’s Norwegian film of 1993.
