What The Last Man on the Moon Is About
Eugene Cernan was the last person to walk on the Moon, leaving the surface with Apollo 17 in December 1972. The documentary records him as an old man looking back over his life: test flying, the brutal competition inside NASA, the friends lost, and the emptiness that followed having gone to the Moon twice. The hardest passages are not about space but about home; those years cost him his marriage, and he does not hide it. Before leaving the surface he wrote his daughter's initials in the dust. He died in 2017, not long after the film.
