The Librarians

Kim A. Snyder's 2025 documentary follows librarians standing against the removal of books from school and public libraries in the United States. Practices that began in Texas and Florida spread quickly and the lists reached thousands of titles. The documentary follows individual stories. Librarians were dismissed, received threats and some went to court; the narrative shows the everyday form of that pressure and tracks how the decisions are made. Most of the removed books deal with race and sexual identity. The documentary states this while giving limited room to the other side's reasoning and stands openly with the librarians. Who it's for: those who follow debates on freedom of expression and current American documentary. Who it's not for: viewers expecting both sides to be heard; the film is an argument for one.
