What The Linguists Is About
The documentary follows two linguists. They are David Harrison and Gregory Anderson. They are recording languages that are about to disappear. They are working against time. Very few speakers of these languages are left. They go to Siberia. They work in India. Bolivia is on the route as well. They sit down with the speakers where they live. They write down words and grammar. The film also asks why languages fall silent. Racism and humiliation are part of it, and so is economic pressure. When a language dies a body of knowledge goes with it. Jeremy Newberger, Seth Kramer and Daniel A. Miller made the sixty four minute documentary, an American production finished in 2008.
