What The Lizard Is About

Reza, in prison for theft, puts on the robes of a cleric he meets inside and escapes. Unable to get out of the outfit, he ends up being taken for the imam of a village, where the congregation expects him to lead prayers, preach and conduct weddings. While looking for a way out of the country he starts winning the villagers over. Because Kamal Tabrizi's film goes directly at the clergy in post-revolutionary Iran, it was both a large box office success and withdrawn from cinemas shortly after opening. Parviz Parastui created one of Iranian cinema's best known characters here.
