What The Love of Jeanne Ney Is About
In the Crimea the Reds and the Whites are still fighting, and Jeanne learns that the man she loves is a Bolshevik at the moment he kills her father. Left with nothing, she goes back to Paris to work for her uncle. Andreas turns up in France soon after, to organise the sailors at Toulon, and so does Khalibiev, a thief and informer who wants her. A lost diamond brings the two lovers to the edge of catastrophe. It is adapted from Ilya Ehrenburg's 1924 novel, with Ehrenburg himself on the screenplay. Pabst shot it at the Ufa studios in Neubabelsberg and on location in Paris. Brigitte Helm, in the cast, had only one previous film behind her: Metropolis.
