What The Machine Is About
Karina, who lives in Nordestina, a town too small to appear on any map, wants to act and to see the world. Antônio, in love with her, makes exactly the wrong promise to keep her from leaving: he will bring the world to her. To do it he leaves town, gets himself onto a television programme, and announces a journey starting from the square, a trip into the future. João Falcão made the film from his own stage play and Adriana Falcão’s text. Paulo Autran narrates and also plays the older Antônio, with Wagner Moura as the television presenter. In this fable where dreams contradict the facts, love is the thing that transforms.
