What The Macomber Affair Is About
A wealthy American couple set out on a big-game safari in Africa, guided by the professional hunter Robert Wilson. On the first hunt Francis Macomber panics and runs; his wife Margaret has seen it, and from that day every word between them turns around that shame. She moves closer to the hunter, the husband goes out on a second hunt to prove himself, and during it the bullet Margaret fires kills him. Whether it was an accident or intended is left standing, and the film does not answer. Zoltan Korda’s eighty nine minute film was adapted from Ernest Hemingway’s story; Gregory Peck, Joan Bennett and Robert Preston appear.
