What The Magician's Elephant Is About
A boy who believes his sister is alive follows the strange answer a fortune teller gives him, to follow an elephant, and then an elephant actually falls from the sky. The animation takes its fantastical premise seriously and makes belief the subject: the whole town has given up hoping and finds the boy's insistence irritating. The design is warm and the sets look like a storybook. The narrative is rushed in places and the supporting characters are underserved. Adapted from a novel, plainly.
