The Man Whose Mind Exploded

The documentary is about Drako Zaraharzar, who after a severe head injury can no longer lay down new memories. He can reach the life he had before the accident but cannot remember yesterday; as he puts it himself, the recording machine in his head does not work. For that reason, and as an antidote to depression, he chooses to live entirely in the present, following the strange mottoes that came to him while he was in a coma. The director Toby Amies in time crosses the line between the person filming and the person caring, and does not hide it. The account does not offer the man as an oddity to be amused by, nor ask for pity. What the responsibility of care does to the camera is the film’s second subject. Toby Amies’s seventy seven minute British documentary was completed in 2014.
