What The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh Is About

In the Hundred Acre Wood, Pooh is after honey, Kanga has just moved in, Tigger bounces and a storm turns everything over. The film opens with the pages of a book; Pooh talks to the narrator and the letters can move around on the page. It was actually assembled from three separate shorts: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree from 1966, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day from 1968 and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too from 1974, with linking scenes added between them. A new closing sequence based on The House at Pooh Corner was put at the end: Christopher Robin leaving for school. Walt Disney Productions made it and Buena Vista distributed. Wolfgang Reitherman and John Lounsbery directed. It is the last film in the Disney canon in which Walt Disney was personally involved. He had originally considered a feature, choosing the shorts first to introduce the characters to American audiences. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 100 percent from 19 reviews. It produced an enormous franchise: sequels, television series, merchandise and theme park attractions around the world. Who it is for: small children and anyone who loves hand-drawn Disney animation. Who it is not for: viewers wanting a whole. Stitched from three separate shorts, it does not flow as one story.
