What The Meerkats Is About
A nature documentary following Kolo, a meerkat pup, growing up in the Kalahari desert. The rules of the group, the sentry system, how they act together against predators and what the young learn from the adults are shown in turn. It was made with the BBC using filming methods that were new at the time. Two notes: documentaries like this give animals names and build a story around them, so the behaviour is real while the narrative is constructed. And the narration was among Paul Newman's last work, since he died the year it came out.
