The Pagan

The film is set on an island in the Pacific. Henry Shoesmith lives there. His father was European and his mother an islander. A coconut plantation came to him from his father. He has a store as well. Trade does not interest him much. The life of the island is enough for him. Then he meets Tito. Tito is a young woman who lives there. Henry falls for her. Roger Slater has charge of her, a coconut oil trader who has appointed himself her guardian. He explains it as a Christian duty, though his real intent is something else, and he sets about ruining Henry’s business to keep the two apart. Ramon Novarro and Dorothy Janis appear in the seventy eight minute silent film, an American production W.S. Van Dyke finished in 1929.
