What The Pool Hustlers Is About
Francesco, known as Toscano, is very good at pool and never wins when there is money on the table. One night on a bus he and Chiara swap cases, his with the cue and hers with the saxophone, and that is how they meet and how something starts. In the same stretch Francesco loses a large sum to Scuro, the long-standing Italian champion. The only way to clear the debt is to win the national championship. Maurizio Ponzi directs, with Francesco Nuti in the lead; it was the film that brought Nuti a wide audience in Italy. It uses the shape of a sports film and is really about losing.
