What The Big Fox Is About
Maurizio Ponzi's 1988 Italian comedy carries a story of greed into the present day; its character names come straight out of Ben Jonson's Volpone. The wealthy shipowner Ugo Maria Volpone pretends to be dying in order to gather around him the three acquaintances with an eye on his fortune, Corvino, Voltore and Corbaccio. All three accept every humiliation and every expense in the hope of the inheritance. Mosca, Volpone's new servant, pushes the game further still. Enrico Montesano and Paolo Villaggio face each other. A loud, coarse Italian version of a classic comedy of greed.
