What The Quack Is About
A well-known surgeon is beaten by drunks, loses his memory and cannot recall who he was. After years on the roads he reaches a village and settles with a poor family. Finding that his hands still know the work, he begins treating people, and they start calling him the healer. But a man without papers performing surgery brings the law down on him. Jerzy Hoffman directed, from Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz's novel of 1937. It is among the best loved films in Poland; the same book was filmed in 1937 and again in 2023.
