What The Law and the Fist Is About
At the end of the Second World War, Poles begin settling in the western lands that have changed hands. A group arriving in an emptied town presents itself as representing the government; what they really intend is to gather what has been left behind and make off with it. The one honest man among them stands against this, because he believes those goods belong to the people. What follows is one man left on his own reckoning with a group far larger than himself. The film tells the lawless setting of the post war years with the tension of a western. Gustaw Holoubek appears in the ninety minute Polish film by Jerzy Hoffman and Edward Skorzewski, completed in 1964.
