What The Raft Is About
In 1973 five men and six women crossed the Atlantic on a raft as part of an experiment that claimed to be looking into the origins of violence and sexual attraction. The anthropologist who set it up expected people in a confined space to turn on each other; for three months that did not happen, and in the end he began to provoke the tension himself. The captain of the raft was a woman. The press told the voyage as a sexual story at the time, though the thing worth telling was something else. The documentary joins archive material with a reunion that brings the surviving participants together years later. Marcus Lindeen’s ninety seven minute Swedish production was completed in 2018.
