The Rape of Recy Taylor

Recy Taylor was a woman of twenty four. She was a mother and a sharecropper in Alabama. In 1944 she was attacked by six white men. The attack was one of sexual violence. Racial separation was the law in the South at that time. To speak of such a thing was to put your life at risk. Most women stayed silent for that reason. Recy Taylor did not. She said plainly who the men were. When the news got out an association took up the case. The person sent to investigate on the ground was Rosa Parks. Parks organised public support. The demand for justice was heard across the country. The documentary sets out this case and the long history behind it. The continuity of violence against Black women is laid out. The ninety one minute film also shows the part Rosa Parks played in it, an American production Nancy Buirski finished in 2019.
