What The Return of the Soldier Is About

Chris Baldry comes back from the First World War with his memory left at the front: he does not recognise his wife Kitty, does not remember the years they spent together, and does not know about the child they lost. All he has is Margaret, the love of his youth, and he goes looking for her. She is married to someone else now, and poor. The three women around him have to choose between curing him and returning him to grief he no longer knows about. Alan Bridges adapted Rebecca West’s novel, with Julie Christie, Glenda Jackson and Ann-Margret.
