What The Rising of the Moon Is About
John Ford shot three short stories in Ireland with an entirely Irish cast, most of it drawn from the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. In the first, a policeman has to arrest an old man of firm traditional principle for assault, and the man’s bearing brings the whole village round to his side, including the man he hit. The second is a comedy built on a one minute stop at a small railway station that stretches on and on. The third follows the escape of a nationalist condemned to hang in 1921. Tyrone Power introduces each part.
