What The Road to San Diego Is About
A young Argentine learns that the footballer he admires is lying ill in a hospital in Buenos Aires. He decides to bring him a tree root he found while working in the forest, which he believes resembles the man’s face, and sets out. The road is long, he has no money and does not know how he will reach the place; along the way the people he meets help him. The film tells less a story of admiration than the attention ordinary people show one another. The account neither mocks nor works on the feelings. Ignacio Benitez plays the lead in Carlos Sorin’s ninety five minute Argentine film, completed in 2006.
