Joel

Cecilia, a piano teacher, and her husband Diego, who works in forestry, live in the small town of Tolhuin in Tierra del Fuego, and having had no children of their own they applied to adopt years ago. One day the agency calls and nine year old Joel arrives; his father is in prison and what the boy has seen has come with him. Behind at school, Joel repeats in the playground what he saw his father do, and first the school and then all the other parents stand against him, splitting the town into those who want the boy expelled and those who do not. Carlos Sorín’s hundred minute Argentine film presents adoption not as a happy ending but as a test for a community. Victoria Almeida plays Cecilia, Diego Gentile plays Diego and Joel Noguera plays Joel, with Ana Katz in the cast. It was completed in 2018.
