What The Robber Is About

Johann comes out of prison and runs two lives at once: he competes in marathons and he robs banks. He does both with the same body, the same discipline and the same calm, running as he escapes and escaping as he runs. Benjamin Heisenberg never explains why, offering no childhood wound and no motive, only watching, and that choice is what makes the film so unsettlingly effective. The story comes from a real Austrian case in the eighties. Andreas Lust carries it with almost no dialogue. Short, fast, and never inflated with music.
