The Secret of Dr. Grinberg

Jacobo Grinberg was a neuroscience researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. In the early 1990s his work on brain waves and consciousness drew international attention; at the same time he was running experiments on telepathy and working with healers in Mexico. In 1994 he disappeared. The police found no trace. The only certain thing is that all his research material, computers included, disappeared with him. Ida Cuéllar's documentary takes on both the scientific work and the disappearance. The narrative does not build a conspiracy theory, but it does not hide that the case was never explained either; his daughter Estusha and his brother speak, and his colleagues and students give their accounts. The film's most contested aspect is its approach to his work: the telepathy experiments were never scientifically confirmed and the film keeps no clear distance from them. Who it's for: Anyone interested in the history of science, missing-person cases, and recent Mexican history. Who it's not for: The film gives wide room to unverified claims. The questions about the disappearance also go unanswered.
