The Shimmering Beast

Every year a group of men come together to hunt moose. The place is near Maniwaki in Quebec. Nine men and their guide stay a week in the bush. But what the film is really about is not the hunt; it is the order the group builds among themselves. Before long one of them becomes the target. That man is Stéphane-Albert, a talker with a leaning towards making reality prettier than it is. The mockery of the others starts light and turns wearing. The documentary sets down the hardness inside a circle of friends. The hundred and twenty eight minutes are given to one week. Pierre Perrault’s Canadian documentary was completed in 1982.
