The Sidemen Story

Luke Hyams's 2024 documentary covers the first decade of a British internet group. Seven people began with gaming videos, decided to broadcast together, and over time built a structure with its own company, products and large-scale events. What is interesting is that it takes up friendship becoming a business. The rifts inside the group, one member's departure and return, and the sharing of income are discussed directly, which is not common in documentaries about content creators. The narrative rests on the group's own archive and gives little room to outside criticism. Some of the content they made is said to have caused controversy, but this is not dwelt on. Who it's for: those who follow the group and are curious about internet culture. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a critical view; the documentary stays with the group's own account.
