What The Sky Crawlers Is About
A world at peace still wants a war, so it stages one and watches. The pilots flying those missions are Kildren: adolescents who do not age, who stay exactly as they are until somebody shoots them down, and who remember almost nothing of before. Yuichi arrives at a new base and works out that someone held his post before him, and that nobody will say who. Oshii keeps the film deliberately becalmed between dogfights, because the repetition is the point. There is one more scene after the credits.
