What The Soul Keeper Is About

Zurich, 1905. Sabina Spielrein, nineteen, is committed to a psychiatric hospital by her parents, diagnosed with severe hysteria and refusing to eat. The young doctor who takes her case, Carl Gustav Jung, tries out for the first time the psychoanalytic method of his teacher, Freud. What forms between them is both a treatment and a love affair. Spielrein went on to become an analyst herself, entered Freud's circle, returned to Russia and was swallowed by the darkest chapters of the twentieth century there. Roberto Faenza's film puts this largely forgotten woman at the centre. Iain Glen plays Jung, Emilia Fox plays Spielrein.
