In the Brancaccio district of Palermo in the nineties, a priest tries to take the children growing up on the street out of the Mafia's hands, giving them somewhere to play, a door to knock on and an alternative. To the family running the district this is a direct threat. The story is real. Pino Puglisi was shot outside his home in 1993 on his fifty-sixth birthday, and the last words he is said to have spoken to his killer were that he had been expecting him. The church declared him a martyr in 2013.
