The Spider and the Fly

The film is set in Paris in the years before the world war. Philippe de Ledocq is a master safebreaker. He walks away from every place he enters. The police have failed to catch him for years. The police chief Maubert is after him. He has made it his business to put the man behind bars. Madeleine is a woman both of them care for. What lies between the three of them is tangled. Maubert finally catches Ledocq. But the thief is released before long. The government wants it so. Ledocq is expected to steal papers from the German embassy. The papers show where certain agents are. The task brings the two men face to face again. Eric Portman and Guy Rolfe appear in the ninety four minute film, a British production Robert Hamer finished in 1949.
