What The Stolen Airship Is About
The centennial exhibition is up in Prague and a huge airship stands on the ground. Five children get inside it unseen and the airship lifts off. Down below the panic starts: families, police, journalists, and others who want the airship for themselves. The children come down on a deserted island and set about making an order of their own. Karel Zeman's Czechoslovak film starts from the novels of Jules Verne. Zeman combines live action with hand-drawn animation, stop motion and cut-out work in the same frame; the result looks like old engravings. The image is largely black and white and the style imitates the decorative line of the period. The tone suits children.
