Tales of 1,001 Nights

The film tells five separate adventures of Sinbad the sailor. Each time Sinbad lands somewhere else and meets a different danger. Among what he meets are monsters and the rulers of distant lands. His path crosses with the daughters of those rulers as well. Forests, the sea and strange animals are all inside the account. The stories come from the Thousand and One Nights. The work was made by moving puppets and objects frame by frame. Karel Zeman joins that technique to a visual language of his own. Jan Tříska is heard on the soundtrack. Zeman’s Czechoslovak film, eighty eight minutes long, was completed in 1974.
