What The Story of Luke Is About
Luke is a young man with autism who has spent his life with his grandparents, inside a protected arrangement. When his grandmother dies that arrangement collapses and Luke moves in with his uncle. Nothing is expected of him; nobody suggests he get a job, fall in love or live on his own. Those are exactly the things Luke wants, and he will not take no for an answer. Alonso Mayo directs, with Seth Green as Luke. The film turns autism neither into a miraculous gift nor into a tragedy; what Luke wants is presented as entirely ordinary. That is precisely where the difficulty comes from.
