The Tillman Story

In 2002 Pat Tillman walked away from a multimillion-dollar contract with the Arizona Cardinals and enlisted. Two years later he was killed in Afghanistan. The army first announced that he had died heroically under enemy fire while preventing an ambush, and awarded him a medal for it. Five weeks later it emerged that the death was friendly fire. His family, above all his mother Mary Tillman, worked through three thousand pages of redacted documents to get at the actual story. Amir Bar-Lev directs and Josh Brolin narrates. The film follows not the incident itself but the account built afterwards and the congressional hearings that followed. It won an Emmy.
