Johnny Fay What The Tragically Hip - Long Time Running Is About
The documentary follows the 2016 tour of the Canadian band The Tragically Hip and the last concert of that tour. The reason it was the last tour is the brain tumour diagnosis given to the singer Gord Downie. The film records the days of preparation, the rehearsals and how the band deals with the situation. Downie’s illness is not hidden, but the account does not turn it into a spectacle of grief either. The bond between five people who have played together for more than thirty years is the real subject. The final concert was given in Kingston, the band’s home town, and broadcast live across the country. The account listens to the music as a farewell and does not keep that from the viewer. The ninety seven minute Canadian documentary by Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier was completed in 2017.
