Stefanos Linaios What The Treasure of the Beatitude Is About
Theoni has bills to pay and an old house that is falling apart. To make some money she finds an odd way out: she rents the rooms of the house. The lodgers who turn up resemble one another not at all, and each arrives with a trouble of their own. As the house fills, its order comes apart. The film tells this in the shape of Greek comedy of the fifties. Poverty and the question of money sit underneath the humour. An old woman managing on her own is at the centre of the story. The eighty nine minutes take place inside a single house. Georgia Vasileiadou and Vasilis Avlonitis appear in Nikos Tsiforos’s Greek film, completed in 1959.
